Rethinking IP
Rethinking IP
Introduction
Intellectual Property is closely guarded by those who have it and valued highly by those seeking it. But can Intellectual Property laws harm competition?
What good are answers if they are not available?
Is there a point where protection of intellectual property hinders societal development?
At what point does Open Source ideology make more sense for a company than proprietary IP systems?
Background
Following some discussions with friends and associates I decided to conduct some discussions on intellectual property models particularly with regards to their impact on innovation and business development.
Of particular interest is the broad debate on whether an Open Source approach promotes greater innovation than a Proprietary approach.
In this project I intend to speak to a number of leading personalities in the area of Intellectual Property - from Open Source evangelists to IP lawyers actively protecting clients intellectual property.
